As I've written before in other posts, I'm a big believer in being a life learner and never becoming complacent. I love reading, listening to podcasts, going to seminars and networking events because it not only enhances my life, but those around me as well. I'm sure most of you have seen, or at least heard of, the Secret, which some may see as corny, but I found it interesting. Regardless of your spiritual beliefs, I strongly believe in the message of the Secret in that there are unseen forces (positive-negative, yin-yang, God-Satan, or whatever you want to call it) in and around us and you can use it to work for you or against you. I chose to use it to work for me.
So when I was pitched to review Deepak Chopra's The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success DVD, I happily agreed because Deepak is someone who I enjoy and greatly respect. Sadly, I have had the DVD sitting on my desk as a constant reminder to review it for nearly two months now, and my guilt level for not getting to it increased with each passing week, so this week, I finally took the time to watch and review it.
Deepak Chopra's The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success DVD (released May 8, 2007) is based on the book
of the same title, which was published in 1994. Since it's been more
than a decade since the book was released, I'm thinking that Deepak
revived this book as a DVD to capitalize on the enormous buzz and
success of the Secret.
The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success DVD features Deepak Chopra, as well as interviews with singer Olivia Newton-John (who also did the music for the DVD), musician Dave Stewart (Eurythmics), professional golfer Tina Mickelson, and actor and director Bill Duke.
The interviews are all good, however, what I didn't care for was the
animated computer-generated graphics that are weaved throughout the
DVD.
It doesn't have the production value or intrigue that the Secret
has, and the production quality comes off as amateur, almost as if it
was done by a beginning film student, so that was very disappointing. I
suppose the less than stellar animated graphics is what gives
it the amateur feel, but it could also be related to a low budget or
time constraints. Overall, it lacks the slickness of a high quality
production.
However, I was able to push beyond my disappointment of the
production value and focus on its content, which is why I wanted to
watch it in the first place. The content is good. The DVD explains in
depth on what Deepak has identified as the seven laws of success, which
are:
- The Law of Pure Potential
pinkMOXIE's two cents (PM): This is the starting point, without it, nothing can be brought to fruition. All creation starts with pure consciousness and its potential to be expressed and manifested in the universe. Everyone posses it, the difference from one person to the next is in the manifestation of it.
- The Law of Giving and Receiving
PM: I'm a big believer in this law. When you focus on giving, it comes back to you many-fold. It's all about having an attitude of gratitude and living in abundant thinking and not having a scarcity mentality (fear-based thinking). When you master this law, it's amazing how the universe shifts and aligns and flows with you.
- The Law of Karma
PM: I love this law because it's about self responsibility. If you choose to put forth positive thoughts and good deeds, that's exactly what comes back to you. If you choose to put forth negative thoughts and bad or less desirable actions, then negative outcomes will ensue. It's all about what goes around comes around. I like to think of it as karmic justice. I think the most important factor here, is learning to live in the positive realm of cause and effect.
- The Law of Least Effort
PM: I think this law is a challenging one for most people. To accept things as they are without blame, excuses, or resistance. I think a great example of someone who understands and embraces the Law of Least Effort is Tammy Faye Messner who is gracefully battling inoperable cancer. I use her as an example because I just happen to have seen her yesterday on CNN's Larry King Live where she shared her story and struggle with cancer, but what she also gave viewers is her inspiration, faith and amazing strength in her most challenging time in life. And she does it with effortless grace, glory and belief. To be dying and so frail and yet to have such a love of life flowing through you when you're dying is simply amazing and admirable. She truly understands and lives the Law of Least Effort.
UPDATE (07/21/07): Tammy Faye Messner died peacefully at her home on Friday, July 20, 2007, just two days after appearing on Larry King Live.
- The Law of Intention and Desire
PM: I love this law and it, too, can be challenging because staying present and focused in the moment can prove challenging when it comes to obstacles that can keep us from our true desires and honest intentions, especially when working towards a challenging goal. But with practice, patience, and focus, as well as a deep understanding in the importance of releasing to and trusting in the universe, this law can be mastered and realized to one's full potential.
- The Law of Detachment
PM: What a great law because when you can master this law your life flows with peace and happiness. Too often I see people who are attached to the outcome and miss out on the journey working towards an outcome or result. When one focuses merely on a result he or she tends to become frustrated and unhappy when obstacles and setbacks arise or the outcome doesn't meet his or her expectations. Another way to look at this law is to gain the wisdom of the past without being attached to the event itself. Whether it's a positive or negative event in the past, it's good to detach from it and live in the present. Be who are you are today and not who you were in the past. Also, don't be married to your career for your identity, detach from it and then discover who you really are.
- The Law of Dharma
PM: This is the most important law of all seven laws because it's the meaning of life, it's one's purpose in life and when done correctly, it encompasses the six other spiritual laws. To find one's calling (purpose) and to share it with others brings great meaning, joy and peace to one's life and the lives of those around them. It truly is the greatest gift.
If you're someone who needs balance, peace or more joy in your life, pick up Deepak Chopra’s The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success DVD or the book (I recommend the book over the DVD) to learn how to positively align your thoughts, create a more joyful life, and discover your calling or purpose in life.
And for those of you who are already believers in spiritual laws and are students of life, like me, but you haven't read the book or seen the DVD yet, it's a great refresher or complement to what you've already learned and mastered, and as you know with every refresher or lesson learned, be it this DVD, the Secret, scriptures (Bible, Torah, Qur'an), or other teachings, they all help keep you positively aligned with the universe and fulfilling your destiny and purpose.
The 64-minute DVD is presented in English with 5.1 Dolby Surround sound and comes with both English and Spanish subtitles. The suggested retail price is $19.98 U.S./$21.98 Canada; however, it is available for only $14.99 U.S. from Amazon.
