At the end of 2006 I decided that 2007 would be the year of change, balance and career transformation, and three months into my transformation, I’m loving the journey.
Both career women and stay-at-home moms find it challenging to carve out “me time” for themselves. I am no different, and I knew that it was one element, among others, that I needed to address and implement immediately. Because taking time to yourself on a daily basis is critical to your overall well-being.
“Me time” can be going to the gym (or not), lunch with your girlfriends, meditation, getting a relaxing facial and massage, or reading a good book or your favorite magazine. For me, it’s all those things and more, and I’ve been able to touch on almost all of them in the past three months.
Yesterday, I went out with friends for lunch and shopping, and had a great time. While at Barnes & Noble, I perused the magazine section as I always do when I’m there, but instead of reading work-related publications, I spent time looking at a variety of magazines I normally wouldn’t have time for. I ended up leaving with a few beauty and spa magazines that I’ll enjoy reading in the days ahead, but there was one magazine in particular that caught my eye and after looking through it, I added it to the stack of others and have already started reading it.
What caught my eye was its name: PINK. It jumped out at me for the obvious reason that this blog is called pinkMOXIE . Since starting this blog I’m acutely attuned to the word and color pink. The name may have caught my eye, but its content is what grabbed and kept my attention. On its cover under the title PINK it reads: a beautiful career, a beautiful life.
I love this magazine. Ok, its business related, but it’s not like the usual business magazines that I read for work. This one is geared toward career women and is all about loving your career and life, and having balance.
What an awesome coincidence. It’s called PINK and it’s all about creating a beautiful life and career, and pinkMOXIE is all about being in love with your life and creating balance. Before I had even cracked it open, I knew that I was going to love this magazine.
I just started reading it and am really enjoying it. But I’m wondering why I had never heard of it until yesterday. None of my friends told me about it, I haven’t come across it in my work (I’m work in media and PR), and I hadn’t seen it on the newsstands (which I check out often) until yesterday.
I’ve been missing out, but not anymore. This is one that I will definitely subscribe to. And I try not to subscribe to too many personal publications since I get so many for work, so for me to actually subscribe to it says a lot.
I’m blogging about it to let others know about it. Cynthia Good is the founding editor of PINK, and it appears that it was launched in June/July of 2005.
In the “About” section on PINK’s Web site, Good writes: “PINK represents more than a color or a newborn’s cap. It’s a badge of honor celebrating a global mission of equity and opportunity-a movement acknowledging all that women are today and will be tomorrow, each deserving the chance to realize her fullest human potential; to have a beautiful career, a beautiful life.”
I think Good has a hit on her hands, and I look forward to joining her and the PINK staff at one of the 2007 PINK conferences. Hopefully, I’ll see you there, too.
If you're anything like me, you don't have time to fuss with lipstick on a daily basis nor do you want to wear it everyday. Don't get me wrong, I love lipstick and the fabulous colors it offers, but on a daily basis, I prefer my SPF lip balm.
